MC Hammer - Better Run Run

Rappers having beef is nothing new. Often times they seems pretty legit, but occasionally it's a little hard to believe. Much like Shaq admits that he plays up the Kobe rivaly because it's good for the NBA and therefore good for him, some beefs seem manufactured just to boost sales. The MC Hammer vs Jay-Z situation going on right now seems completely ridiculous to me.

For those who somehow don't know, in the Kanye West song So Appalled, Jay Z said "…And Hammer went broke so you know I'm more focused. I lost 30 mil so I spent another 30. Cause unlike Hammer 30 million can't hurt me." This got Hammer all hot and bothered leading to the promise of retaliation. This seems far too calculated to me. While Jay-Z was probably just throwing out a hot punchline, Hammer saw it not as a diss, but an opportunity to get back in the game.

Video After The Jump!

Let's look at the facts.

  • 1. That actually happened. Hammer lost $30million and was broke. If I trip on the sidewalk and people point that out...I don't get mad at them for it.
  • 2. Hammer can't believe that he is/was/will ever be a better rapper than Hova. He's confident, but not delusional. 2 Legit 2 Quit and Hammertime were great songs, but not because of excellent rapping.
  • 3. Hammer was completely irrelevant until this happened. Had he come out with a new song, no one would have heard it or cared. Now at a minimum people are talking about him, i.e. this post.

In any case, here's his new song/video. Because Hammer is an old man now, he hired some other guy to do the dancing in his video, which is actually pretty sweet. He looks like a member of the ghetto SWAT team. I get the feeling Hammer really wants to challenge Jay to a boxing match. I'd watch that for sure.
