OK this whole boat design thing is just getting ridiculous now: "This sleek 166-foot superyacht comes with its own supercar, designed by Gray Design Studio to appeal to auto lovers. Artist, Chris Burden has created "Metropolis II", a kinetic sculpture consisting of 1200 Hot Wheels cars currently being constructed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Burden began to work in performance art in the early 1970s, he made a series of controversial performances in which the idea of personal danger as artistic expression was central.

Perry Watkins, car designer extrordanaire, has come up with his third record breaking design. At just 41 inches high, 51 inches long and a seemingly impossible 26 inches wide it is officially the smallest car in the world. The body comes from a repainted children's ride, while the chassis is borrowed from a Shanghai Shenke quad bike. The mini car has enough power to compete with normal cars, with a top speed of 60kph (37mph).

Back in July, a group of autonomous orange EVs from Vislab left Italy on a trip that would take them through cities like Moscow and wastelands like the Gobi Desert, all thanks to an array of laser scanners, cameras, and of course GPS. It was a 13,000km journey (8,078 miles) that was made with minimal driver intervention and, thanks to the EV-nature of the vehicles, without stopping once for gasoline - though they were limited to about four hours of travel each day before having to recharge. They arrived in Shanghai on 28th October.
Before you can purchase a car in Japan, you must have a registered parking place within 2km of your home.

There's usually a telephone number you can call to arrange to rent a spot. You will receive a piece of concrete with maybe a number painted on it. You may also be expected to park your car with the front of the car pointing outwards, so be prepared to REVERSE into your parking area. Some temples and shrines also rent out their grounds as parking lots.
Rents can be anywhere from 70 USD a month in small towns to nearer 1000 USD a month in some areas of central Tokyo, though a norm of around 350 USD is the going rate in most neighborhoods in the capital outside the glitzy areas of say Ginza and Azabu.
Fines for illegal parking can also be stiff and if you are towed away by the traffic police expect to pay around 400 USD to get your car out of the pound and be ready for some penalty points on your license.
The Kyoto police are especially keen on towing, so watch out, you have been warned!

Traffic rules in Japan are treated with contempt by a considerable number of drivers. Passing red lights, speeding, cycling into incoming traffic and drink driving are all common experiences on Japanese roads.
In an attempt to shock drivers into better behavior, the Japanese police keep a running count of the number of accidents and traffic fatalities outside major police stations.
Thus in the sign below, there have been 2,086 traffic accidents so far this year in Yamanashi (2009), 14 deaths and 2,784 people injured.
Some rules of thumb for surviving on the roads in Japan are to drive defensively, keep calm and don't lose your temper.
